Diving with humpback whales is always a breathtaking moment, but with this photography what I experienced was truly transformative. For this young calf to so boldly venture away from the protection of its mother to take a closer look at me was incredibly humbling.

These humpback whales were journeying from Antarctica past the east coast of Australia, heading to the warm waters of the South Pacific, and it was here that I was fortunate enough to capture this image of a playful young whale calf. Their sheer size alone is enough to remind us of just how small we are, but I named this wall art Breathe because of how invigorating this experience truly was. It was a moment where I felt completely present; feeling every single heartbeat, how my chest rose and fell with every breath, as I looked deep into the whale calf’s eye.
