Looking out into the dark abyss on an overcast day it was the beginning of the dive and I was in 25m of water. I caught a glimpse of a large creature on the move swimming into the current and I gently followed. The whale shark stayed deep and I dropped down to 35m hoping to get close enough to capture an image. I was swimming hard into the current, breathing heavily, as this magnificent creature slowly rose up from the deep and gave me a small window to frame the shot and click the shutter before she powered away from me back out into the deep blue. Whale sharks are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species and listed as Endangered with populations decreasing.

Bold and beautiful image of a whale shark

Anyone who has ever swam with whale sharks or been fortunate enough to encounter one of these endangered creatures in person will know exactly how breathtaking this marine life is. When capturing this image I was at the beginning of a dive, looking out into the dark abyss on an overcast day when I caught a glimpse of movement below. Quietly and carefully, I followed this whale shark into the unknown.

As the whale shark continued to drop even deeper, I was compelled to follow, swimming hard against the current to keep up and my breathing sounding incredibly loud in my own ears. Luckily this magnificent behemoth slowly rose up from the deep, giving me a quick window to take this photo before she powered off into the deep blue. It was an exhilarating experience.

Stretched Canvas

Archival-grade cotton canvas, free of artificial whiteners and a heavyweight 440 gsm. Uses premium, sustainably sourced, double profiled meranti hardwood frames and archival inks for high-definition vibrant images. With a double coat of UV protective, waterproof and anti-fungal laminate. Ready to hang with high-quality brass screw eyes and stainless steel coated wire. Rolled Canvas

Metal Print

Made with aluminium metal panels and printed using a dye-sublimation process, which uses special ink infused directly into the metal using heat. This brings out the vibrancy and clarity of the image and makes them perfect for bathrooms and wet areas.
