As this green turtle was swimming over a shallow reef near Lady Elliot Island, I was lucky enough to capture this image of her and the irresistible twinkle in her eye. As her flipper brushed the surface of the water, a wave of ripples spread above us, creating an amazing contrast of textures and light patterns.
With the green turtle listed as endangered, interacting with this friendly beauty was a sweet but meaningful reminder of the preciousness of this species. It reminded me just how delicate they are, and of our responsibility to do all we can to aid their conservation.
